Distinguished and Famous people from Metung
🧵 Annemieke Mein
Textile artist Annemieke Mein had a substantial exhibition connection with Metung through a dedicated gallery opened in 1995. John and Vicki Brady ran the Sculpture Gallery, where displays of her work changed regularly over four years. Joy McKean opened the space, accompanied by Slim Dusty, who sang at the occasion. Mein’s practice brought wildlife subjects into textiles, combining close observation with the possibilities of fabric and stitch.
🏉 Ray Dunn
Ray Dunn, lawyer and football administrator, had a holiday home at Metung, where he died in 1971. His professional work included criminal law teaching and legal representation, while his sporting influence centred on Richmond Football Club. As president he helped negotiate the club’s move to the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1965, preceding premierships in 1967 and 1969. Metung was the retreat within a busy Melbourne-based life. The connection is therefore a known home used for holidays, giving the village a quieter association with a man whose public responsibilities involved courtrooms and crowded football grounds.
